The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results of the
National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 on June 4. According to the official website, 67 candidates scored NEET All India Rank (AIR) 1 this year, with a percentile score of 99.997129. However, candidates and experts have raised several questions about the merit list.
The NTA on Wednesday announced that the candidates who suffered time loss during the
NEET-UG have been awarded grace marks.
On X, the agency wrote, “NTA received few representations and Court Cases from the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024 raising concerns of loss of time during the conduct of the examination on 05.05.2024.”
“Such cases/representations were considered by NTA and the normalisation formula, which has been devised and adopted by the Hon'ble Apex Court, vide its Judgment dated 13.06.2018, was implemented to address the loss of time faced by the candidates of NEET (UG) 2024. The loss of examination time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with grace marks. So, the candidate's marks can be 718 or 719 also,” read the official notice.
Many individuals have raised questions on social media about how anyone could get 718 or 719 marks in the examination. Many claimed that one could only get 716 marks out of 720 and it doesn't seem mathematically possible to get 718 or 719.
“Dear NTA, this is too much. How can it be possible for a student to get 718 or 719 and why didn't this happen before ???? Why is it happening for the first time? This has to be answered properly, not like this. Why are you neglecting to answer? Where is the
answer for the leak?” a student wrote.
Several medical students are urging for a re-examination. Their demands are based on claims of paper leaks, the addition of grace marks, and discrepancies in this year's results.
The NEET-UG examination is for students who aspire to take admissions in medical courses including MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, and other courses at top medical colleges.
