SC raps Delhi govt over tanker mafia, says 'if you can't take action, will ask police'

The top court asked the Delhi government to file a report stating action taken for the loss of water. The matter will be taken up on June 13, Thursday.

Amid the water crisis in Delhi, the Supreme Court on Wednesday (June 12) questioned the Aam Aadmi Party government over water tanker mafia and asked about the measures taken against it. The court rapped up the Delhi government saying, "If you cannot deal with the tanker mafia, we will ask Delhi Police to take action."

A vacation bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Prasanna B Varale told Delhi government, "People are suffering, we are seeing visuals on every news channel. What measures have you taken to control water wastage if water scarcity is a recurring problem in summers."

The court also asked the Delhi government on measures taken to control the wastage of water. Advocate Shadan Farasat, appearing for the Delhi government, said there is action, including massive disconnection of water supplies, so that excess water wastage is stopped.
